– The Region of Peel Council considered a motion today calling for a national pharmacare program to help address rising pharmaceutical costs and a growing number of Canadians that cannot afford their prescriptions.

The costs associated with patients lapsing on their prescribed medications is staggering. It is estimated that the cost to the healthcare system could be as high as $1 billion every year, while municipal governments spend about $500 million a year on employee drug insurance premiums.

The motion was passed unopposed.
